Fort St. John City Council has been presented with more information about the current property assessment roll this afternoon.
As reported earlier, it was in November when Premier Campbell announced the government would freeze property assessments, at 2007 levels, to help people cope with turbulent housing prices.
Last week, city residents started to receive 2008 property assessments, with notices listing a property’s market value, for both July 2008 and July 2007. As mentioned, the lower of the two values, will be the one used as the official number, for 2009 tax calculations.
Scott Sitter with BC Assessments, says there has been a lot of confusion for some property owners.
Sitter was unable to answer what exactly will happen next year. Some properties could be facing huge increases, if their values have gone up for 2 straight years.
Remember, you have until January 31st to appeal your property assessment. You can do so by visiting www.bcassessment.ca or by calling 1-800-990-1160
