Peace Valley OSB wants tax break

Peace Valley OSB has asked Fort St. John City Council for a tax rate decrease for 2009.

General Manager Chris Baby made the presentation Monday afternoon to Fort St. John City Council. Chris painted a bleak picture for the OSB industry in 2009, but hoped for a turn around beginning in 2010. Peace Valley has asked for a tax rate reduction of 2.5% which would bring the rate to 22.5%.

Peace Valley OSB believes the current take rate makes them uncompetitive during the current economy.

At the current rate Peace Valley OSB pays approximately $1.8 million per year in property taxes. Council decided Monday to wait until the current tax ratio policy review has been completed before making a decision about the tax reduction.
