RCMP release name of Chetwynd avalanche victim

The RCMP has now confirmed, 45 year old Harold Keith Waldner, was the Rycroft, Alberta man, killed in the Sunday afternoon, avalanche southwest of Chetwynd.

The RCMP now says he was one of five snowmobilers, part of a group of 14, caught in the Sunday afternoon avalanche, southwest of Chetwynd. All five victims were dug out and the other four survived. However, the group was forced to leave the body of the fifth man, at the avalanche site and, it wasn’t recovered until about four o’clock Monday afternoon.

It brings to 13 the number of persons, killed in BC back country snowslides in recent weeks, including an Enderby snowmobiler, who also died Sunday afternoon in another avalanche near his home in the North Okanagan.
