Flyers Struggles Continue
The Tier II Midget Flyers resumed All Peace League play with two games over the weekend. Away in Chetwynd and home to Rycroft..
The local boys were looking to get back in the win column when they travelled to Chetwynd for the second Friday night in a row to face the Duz Cho Midget Flames.
The scoring started early with the host squad scoring 39 seconds in off a strong individual effort and a deke left starting goalie Craig Wozniak wondering what happened. The Flyers got on the board at the 10:57 mark when after a face off win Tyson Negus passed to Brennan Straiger who carried it the length of the ice,made a nice drop pass to a trailing Negus who beat the Chetwynd netminder with a wrist shot.
Chetwynd bounced right back off the insuing face off, beating Woznizak 5 hole with a slapshot from the blue line.
The host team completed the periods scoring with a tally with 1:28 remaining to lead 3-1 at the break.
The Flyers outshot their hosts 15-8 but went 0-1 on the power play.
The second period was all Flyers.
They opened the scoring at the 15:16 mark on a deflection by Beau. Lancaster off a Jordan Gies shot.
They tallied again 43 seconds later off a Brendan Beamish to Jordan Gies pass ,that was subsequently tipped in by Justin Rattray.
The Flyers took the lead at the 11:15 mark when Beau Lancaster forced a turn over behind the Chetwynd net with a crunching body check..Negus collected the puck, went to the net and beat the goalie short side.
The Flyers out shot Chetwynd 14-7 and defended 2 Chetwynd power plays.
Period three was another story. The Duz Cho midgets scored 3 times in the first 8 minutes of the period ,including 1 on the power play to take a 6-4 lead.
The Flyers rebounded with 2 goals of their own off the sticks of Negus and Lancaster to tie it up.
Chetwynd regained momentum off the center ice face off , when the forward out muscled the Flyer defenseman going to the net and got off a one handed backhand that beat an exaspirated Wozniak.
A goailie change to Travis McLean failed to ignite the Flyers and Chetwynd scored with 4:52 remaining on the power play and again into the empty net to seal the 9-6 win.
The Flyers outshot the Chtwynd team 41-32 for the game.
Chetwynd 2-5 on the PP
FSJ 0-1 on the PP.
The Flyers hosted the Rycroft Sharks on Sunday afternoon of the 18th at the Kids Arena.
The Sharks arrived ready to play and took it to their hosts all game long. They held leads of 3-0 after one period, 6-0 after two and 10-0 when the final buzzer ended the game.
The Rycroft sharks scored 4 power play markers, once 4 on 4,once short handed and 4 even strength.
The hometown Flyers went 0-7 with the man advantage, failing to register a single shot and were out shot 34 to 16.
The Flyers next action is January 23rd, hosting Dawson Creek in Taylor @7:00p.m. and January 24th against Rycroft 3:15p.m. in Taylor
