The City of Fort St. John’s Active Living Initiatives and the Sub Zero Running Club have joined together to bring you some great opportunities that will help you get active and motivate you to achieve your health and fitness goals.
Opportunity 1: SportMed BC is offering full online training support to 30 individuals in our community free of charge. You’ll receive weekly coaching tips and advice on nutrition, injury prevention and more from Olympian Lynn Kanuka, a Sun Run In Training log book and a 13 week detailed training program (for all levels of fitness).
You can train anywhere and at anytime- all you need is a computer and a good pair of runners. This program is meant to prepare walkers and runners for the Vancouver Sun Run 10km running and walking event April 19th, 2009. Even if you don’t plan on attending the event, it’s a great opportunity to set goals for yourself and receive the support you need to achieve them.
In addition, you’ll get a chance win a trip to the Vancouver Sun Run. The deadline for this opportunity is February 6, 2009 unless we haven’t filled the 30 spots in which case we may be able to fit you in right away.
Opportunity 2: Walk This Way is a similar 8 week training program that is designed for walkers, both those who are involved in walking and those who are interested in starting to walk.
This program will lead up to the Fort St. John Spring Runoff Road Race and Walk for Diabetes on April 5th, 2009 (you’re not required to participate). The program is free for you. You’ll receive a copy of Marnie Caron’s book “Walking for Fitness” and you can look forwards to a weekly guided walk.
And you don’t have to be a part of a training program to join in on April 5th, 2009. There are events for all ages and activity levels:
1km event for kids 10 year and under
3km fun run for youth age 11-15
5km estimated time run for all ages (who ever gets closest to their estimated time for running 5km wins, no watches allowed!)
10km run for ages 17 and up
5km competitive and recreational walking events
By participating in any of the three above opportunities, you’ll be entered into a grand prize draw for a trip for two to Vancouver for the Sun Run, a 10km walking and running event (includes flights, accommodations and entry fees for the Vancouver Sun Run).
