Spectra Energy has confirmed that a facility operated by the company has been involved in an incident at Mile 111 of the Alaska Highway.
Not much information is known at this time, but we have confirmed that H2S gas was leaking at the facility and may still be leaking. At least two people have been transported to the Fort St. John Hospital. Dwight Ford spoke with John Turner from Spectra Energy. There have also been reports of a fire and explosion, those have not been confirmed at this time. The RCMP and the Ministry of Transport has closed the highway at Mile 111, but have now setup an alternate route. The bypass route will have traffic re-routed at Mile 115 and Mile 73 (Beaton Airport Road).
