Local Area Drought Concerns

Based on earlier precipitation numbers there’s growing local area concern, about another year of drought conditions.

With little rain or snow in the five day forecast and none after today, the February precipitation total is still running, at less than 10 millimeters and only about one third of the monthly norm.

It is also less than one quarter of what we received last year, when the February total was 44 point eight.

Comparing the year-over-year numbers shows to date this year we’ve recorded about 41 millimeters as opposed to nearly 65, in January and February of last year.

However, last year was a drought year and so, local area farmers and ranchers can only hope, that things are significantly better in June and July this year, than they were in 2008.

They are traditionally the two highest precipitation months of the year, in this region, with a combined norm of nearly 155 millimeters.

Last year however, they combined to produce only 47 point three.
