Mitch Kupchanko of the Fort St. John Elks speed skating club competed in the Canadian Long Track championships the past week-end.  The meet was held in cold conditions in Regina

Kupchanko had a good meet, but one that started slowly.  In the first distance, the 1000M, a fall left him in 10th place.  The next distance was the 1500M where he came in third winning his first Canadian bronze medal.  Next he skated in the 500M event where he was also third.  In the fourth and final distance, the 3000M he finished in 7th.

Overall Kupchanko finished fourth, overcoming early adversity.  He faces more challenges next week changing over from long track to short track at B.C. Cup #2, to be held in Fort St. John.
