The owner of the Edgewood Mobile Home Park has weighed in with his side of the story.

Bruce Hagal has a four-year history with the park. In 2005, his friend bought the business with Hagal as a silent partner.

Hagal says his friend later sold the park to a Kelowna company, who then walked away when the lagoon problems started. Hagal says his only options were to buy the park, or lose his investment.

Hagal says he didn’t intend to be the long-term manager of the park when he purchased it.

Last October, the Ministry of Environment ordered the park to shut down the lagoon. Hagal says he was forced to ask residents for a voluntary rent increase, or face an immediate park closure.

Hagal says since then, residents have been taking steps to conserve water, and have bonded as a community to keep the park open.

Hagal says he is in talks with a potential owner from Fort St. John to help manage the park, and if all goes well, the park will be co-owned by the two men. He says the rent will still have to increase, but not as much as previously thought.
