Province starts GamesTown 2010 Competition

With the recent launch of the Province’s GamesTown 2010 competition, there has never been a better opportunity to show off the healthy living and Olympic-spirit of the Peace River Region.

The gold, silver and bronze medal winners will receive cash awards of $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000, respectively, to put towards upgrading a local sports, fitness or healthy living facility. Grand prize winners will also receive tickets to the 2010 Winter Games. As well, draws will be held in March, April and May when 16 communities each month will win prizes to use as incentives and awards to encourage their residents to
participate. In total, 15 pairs of tickets to the 2010 Winter Games are available to be won as part of the monthly prizes.

Community entries will be judged on: the creativity and enthusiasm of their submissions; a variety of healthy living and environmental sustainability criteria, such as the level of community engagement at recreation facilities and in amateur sports; the community’s participation in the World Healthy Living Challenge; its commitment to environmental sustainability initiatives; and how active the community is in incorporating the Olympic and Paralympic theme in its current activities and plans for the year ahead.
