Special Olympian heads to World Winter Games

This is the week, that local special-olympic figure-skater Darlene Jakubowski heads to Boise, Idaho for the world winter games.

Darlene’s training for the games included a team Canada training camp in Alliston Ontario, in December, where she won two gold medals.  She trains twice a week at the North Peace Arena, as well as training with the Dawson Creek figure skating club during the week.


Her games schedule includes her Ice-dance on Feb 8th, her technical (skills) compulsory on the 9th, and her level 5 solo and Creative Dance on the 12th.

The entire Canadian team is meeting up in Vancouver on Tuesday, where athletes will also do a fitness test.  On Wednesday, the team departs for Boise Idaho, where they will stay with stay with host families for a few days, before moving into the athletes housing, when the games begin on Friday, Feb 6th.
