VE Brandl Flyers 1-1 after weekend

The VE Brandl Pee Wee B Flyers win one and lose one on the weekend in All Peace Action and sit at 6-3 in third place.  The Flyers started off the weekend well when they defeated the Beaverlodge Blades 3-1 on Saturday afternoon with a strong team effort and good goal tending.

The Blades started the scoring three minutes into the game but the Flyers came back with three of their own in the next two periods. Alex Hartman evened the score half way through the second on an unassisted goal.  A few minutes later Jarod Lang found the net from Tyrell Loewen’s pass.  The score remained 2-1 until Hartman scored from Ricky Bateman and James Bowie with only 13 seconds left in the game.

On Sunday, the Flyers had their chances when they took a three goal lead in the first period when Hartman netted one from Gavin Gould, Bateman scored from Hartman and Bowie, and Lang scored an unassisted goal.  It looked good for the Flyers who haven’t been able to beat the Sexsmith Vipers this year.  Sexsmith scored one to make it 3-1 but Tyler Wood gave the Flyers a three goal lead only a minute later.  However, the Vipers kept coming back and scored two more to bring the score to 4-3 at the end of the first.

In the second, Hartman gave the Flyers a two goal lead for only a minute before the Vipers answered right back with one of their own to make it 5-4.  Bradyn Rouble gave the Flyers a little breathing room when he netted one with only 17 seconds left in the second period to make the score 6-4.

In the third, Lang gave the Flyers a three goal lead at the 14 minute mark but it was all Vipers after that.  In a span of seven minutes the Vipers scored 4 unanswered goals and then put one into the empty net with 13 seconds left to play, to win the game

The VE Brandl Flyers play three home games next weekend.  On Saturday, they play at 3:45 in Taylor against Grande Prairie and on Sunday the play Grande Cache at 10:30 am and Chetwynd at 3:45 pm both at the Kids Arena.
