BC Forestry Recovery Plan

The B-C government and the forest industry have come together on a plan to breathe new life into the struggling industry but, it will take a decade to do it.

Forests Minister Pat Bell and forest industry executives say they’ll co-operate on efforts to find more value in each tree that’s logged, with the aim of having B-C lead the world on the issue by 2020.

Canada currently generates 123 dollars of gross domestic product, from each cubic metre of wood, while the U-S gets almost 300 dollars and, Japan pulls in 664.

In addition to adding value to its wood products, B-C aims to strengthen the pulp sector and to continue to promote wood, as the world’s top building product.
