Council to hear Property Tax Ratio Report Monday

Fort St. John City Council will hear Dr. Hamilton’s report on Tax Ratio’s at special meeting Monday.

The meeting will take place at 1:30, prior to the regularly scheduled Council Meeting.  Dr. Hamilton was hired by Council to determine if the method by which the City divides total property taxes among the property classes should be adjusted.  There are seven property classes in the city, including residential and business.

City Manager Diane Hunter said last November that one of the main concerns with the 2008 budget was the tax ratio between business and residential property.

This report, if implemented by Council, could cause some property classes to see a tax rate increase, while others may see a decrease or there could be no changes at all.
