In turns out, among the nation’s ten provinces, BC recorded the highest number of people collecting employment insurance in January of this year.
Stats. Canada puts that number, at 56,100…a whopping year-over-year increase, of 47.7%. The community hardest hit was Chilliwack, which recorded an increase of 85.7%.
However, there were communities in Northern half of the province that recorded only single digit increases and they included Fort St. John, at 6.7% with an increase from 150 to 160.
Nation-wide, the number of Canadians, who filed for benefits spiked in January above the 500,000 level. That represents a jump, of 4.4% compared to December.
