FSJ Knights of Columbus Flyers advance to finals

The Ft. St. John team clashed with the Grande Prairie Chiefs on the weekend and narrowly defeated them in a two game semi-final playoff.
The first game in Fort St. John began with Logan Daneluk scoring for the Flyers at 3:32 in the first period, assisted by Blair Karasiuk and Cayle Bell.  The Chiefs struck back at 12:46 in the second tying the game 1-1.  Kyle Leonard scored on a power play at 10:37 in the second, assisted by Daneluk and Tyler Cresswell.  The Flyers continued their assault as Haydn Mohr put one in the net at 8:58 in the second period, assisted by Jade McMullin, making the score 3–1 for the Knights.  Cooper Shallow scored another goal at 8:10 giving the flyers a 4-1 lead.  Assists were contributed by Daneluk, and Bell.  The Chiefs rallied to score a point at 3:31 in the second.  Haydn Mohr scored his second goal at 19:02 in the third period giving the Knights a 5-2 lead.  The Chiefs rallied to gain two more points and the game ended 5-4 in the Knights favor.  Shots on Fort St. John were 28 and shots on GP goal were 27.  The Knights were 1/3 on the penalty kill and 1/4 on the power play.
The second game took place in Grande Prairie on Sunday where the two opposing teams struggled to gain a playoff position in the finals.  Grande Prairie scored a goal in the first period which was matched by a point from Blair Karasiuk of the flyers. Wyatt Anderson assisted.  The Chiefs scored again in the second making the score 2-1 in their favor.  Because the semifinal was based on total points, the teams were forced into overtime after a scoreless third period.  Cayle Bell saved the day as he drove the puck into the Chiefs’ net three minutes into overtime.  The stalwart play of goalie Daimon Derioun was a significant factor in the victory as he blocked 22 out of 24 shots on the Flyers goal.
The Knights of Columbus AA Bantam Flyers play Dawson Creek in the first game of the finals on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. in the Kids Arena in FSJ.
