Pulp Waste Fuel could save millions

The Prince George inventor of a chemical process that could turn pulp mill waste into fuel for cars or even run the mills themselves, says the technology could reap millions of dollars for the ailing forestry industry.

Chemist Mark Logan, who once worked for Canfor’s Intercontinental Pulp Mill, has been issued a U-S patent on the technology which would use the waste to make biodiesel.

Mr. Logan, who also has an international patent in the works, says even a small mill could use the method to increase revenue by about three million dollars a year.

He has presented his idea to all nine pulp mills in B-C and Alberta, in hopes of starting a pilot project.
