Spring may be around the corner, but the RCMP is warning drivers to take caution on the city’s roads.
The Fort St. John RCMP will be increasing police presence on the city’s roadways to combat speeding as well as drinking and driving.
Corporal T.F. Woodall says there were 15 motor-vehicle related deaths in this area, from January to March of last year.
He says the added enforcement is a precursor to when road conditions improve in the spring.
Woodall says despite the tight legislation on drinking and driving, people still drive intoxicated. He says the extra enforcement will target those who choose to drive under the influence.
However, Woodall adds officers have been seeing a lot of designated drivers during road check stops in the area. And, he says those people are recognized and congratulated by the RCMP.
