Spectra Energy will be moving forward with the next stage of development with their Fort Nelson Carbon Capture Project.

Spectra has been working towards the idea of capturing carbon produced by their processing facility in Fort Nelson. Gary Wellinger is the Vice President of Strategic Development and External Affairs and explains the next stage of development. Spectra hopes this stage will help them understand a number of things. First is the suitability of the cap rock, which would keep the carbon in the sequestration zone. They also hope to find out how much carbon can be stored in this area. [asset|aid=1159|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=9aba06e5ff06c247821da76de719f61e-Gary -2_1_Pub.mp3]

Both the Provincial and Federal Governments have provided funding towards the project and according to Spectra this facility would dwarf almost any existing carbon capture projects.

If all goes according to plan, the new facility could be up and running by 2012.
