Voter registration way behind in this riding

A statement from Elections BC shows voters in the Peace River North Riding are falling behind when it comes to registration for the May 12th provincial election.

BC’s Chief Electoral Officer says across the province, an average of 75.6 per cent of eligible voters are registered, compared to just 50.2 per cent in this riding.

Harry Neufeld says a high rate of transience in this region, as well as a lack of awareness of voting requirements have contributed to lower registration rates.

Voters have until April 21st, to preregister to cast a ballot in the General Election and Referendum on Electoral Reform.

After that, voters will be able to register in person on voting day, but Neufeld points out that may involve lineups and delays.
