Six million dollars is being invested in construction to Highway 77 from Deasum Creek to the Northwest Territory border.
The announcement came on Tuesday by Prince George-Peace River M-P Jay Hill and Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Blair Lekstrom.
Crews will be carrying out base strengthening and upgrading of the road structure, bringing it to 100 per cent carrying capacity, with a new hard surface over 25 km.
Lekstrom says the project is expected to create 40 jobs and improve travel and safety conditions on the road.
The announcement is part of the 290-million dollar infrastructure investment, recently announced by the Government of Canada and the Province of B.C.
Construction is expected to begin in June 2009 and finish in September 2009.
