Taylor Light up Competition

TAYLOR, B.C. - The District of Taylor Council is hosting a Light up Competition.

The B.C. election campaign got officially underway on Tuesday, with Premier Gordon Campbell asking the Lieutenant Governor to dissolve the legislature.

The dropping of the writ meant day one of the election campaign for nominees across the province, including Peace River North’s Liberal candidate Pat Pimm, who officially opened his campaign office, at 10515 100th Avenue, in Fort St. John.

Pat Pimm won the liberal nomination for the riding on March 20th, and says he is the right man to take charge of the riding, because of his roots in the region. [asset|aid=1214|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=6af657ea26bac185678ccd7dfff11312-Pimm-rightMan_2_Pub.mp3]

At this point, the number one issue heading into the May 12th vote continues to be the economy. Pimm says economic activity in this region has slowed down recently, but he sees it starting to turn the corner. Now, as we’ve already seen, the Liberals’ Carbon Tax will be a key issue in the campaign. The NDP says it will scrap the tax, and replace it with a cap-and-trade system.  But, like his party, Pimm says the tax is the correct approach to environmental balance. The official Liberal platform will be released by Gordon Campbell on Wednesday morning, in Vancouver.

Green Party party candidate Liz Logan will open her local campaign office (at the old Fort Motors building) on Thursday night.

Stay tuned for more information from the other parties.
