There’s a few more details on the highway improvement announcement in the Peace Region.

Ministry of Transportation District Manager Renee Mounteney says the North and South Peace will be receiving over 100 million dollars in highway improvements. She says the steel deck on the Taylor Bridge will be completely replaced. The design process will be done this year and different options, like an alternative steel deck or paving, will be considered.

Construction on the bridge will take place next year. Mounteney says the exact cost for the deck replacement hasn’t yet been determined. She also says closure dates will be available closer to next year.

As for the passing lane on Highway 97 near 12-Mile, approximately 26 kilometers north of Dawson Creek, Mounteney says construction is expected this year.

She says the road will still be open, and delays up to 20 minutes are expected.
