The fire broke out at about 4:40am on Tuesday, and reports indicate fire-fighters managed to keep the flames from spreading to the ground floor store itself.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Al Pinkerton said the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area, which is also on the ground floor.

As of 2:00pm Tuesday afternoon, fire crews are waiting for fire commissioners to arrive from Prince George, to start the investigations.

As a precautionary measure, the Charlie Lake School cancelled all classes on Tuesday. Classes will resume on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Pinkerton says accommodation has been found for the residents who lived on top of the Charlie Lake store.
