Dawson Creek Soldier to receive service medal

A Dawson Creek man is receiving an award from the Governor General.

Michaëlle Jean announced on Tuesday that she will be awarding one Meritorious Service Cross, Military Division, and five Meritorious Service Medals, Military Division, to individuals whose specific achievements have brought honor to the Canadian Forces and to Canada.

Major Trevor Gosselin from North York, Ontario and Dawson Creek, will be receiving the award at a later date. Gosselin qualified for the award after he commanded the Battle Group Tank Squadron in Afghanistan from August 2007 to March 2008.

According to the Governor General’s website, Gosselin united soldiers from different units into a seamless fighting force. He has extensive knowledge of armor capabilities, limitations and tactics. Major Gosselin’s inspirational leadership and tactical acumen enhanced his squadron’s combat effectiveness.

The Governor General will announce the award ceremony at a later date.
