Local athletes compete at GP Triathlon

The triathlon in Grande Prairie was held in spite on the inclement weather which was occurring up to the start of the race.  Chilly and windy conditions were endured along with temperatures near freezing, this meant participants had to decide between speed and warmth during the event!  Many racers took the extra few minutes to put on layers of clothes.  Fort St. John residents gave a good showing with medals received for all involved.  First time triathlon racers Rebecca Pimm with 1:12:20 and Becky Keim with 1:14:01, both received medals, Silver and Bronze respectively,  in the female 20 to 29 age group.  In the female 30-39 age group Sandra McDonald got a Silver medal with a time of 1:02:32 which was also third best female time overall, along with the best female bike time!

Barb Polehoykie earned a Gold medal with her time of 1:04:26 good for first in the female 40-49 age group and fourth overall.  Darren Guliov had a great time of 1:04:21 for Silver in the male 40-49 age group, Gord Harris was also a Silver, but in the 50-59 age group with 1:03:36 which included the fourth fastest run overall.  Grant Spelsberg was the only Relay participant and on the team " LJ Pack" did a respectable 4km run of 17:42 which included part of the transition from bike to run.  Grant received a Silver medal with his team in the mixed division.
