The Local RCMP detachment says Mounties are very impressed with motorists this long weekend.
In a news release on Tuesday, the detachment reports no serious collisions or roadway fatalities occurred in the Peace Region, over the weekend, despite the inclement weather.
There were three large-scale road checks conducted on Friday, and a smaller check stop on both Friday and Saturday. During the check stops, four impaired drivers were apprehended, four 24 hour prohibitions issued, three drivers prohibited, two vehicles impounded, and numerous citations issued for driving contrary to driver license restrictions.
Outside of organized check stops during regular highway patrols, numerous extra violations were issued, with speeding being the primary reason.
The detachment does report that seat belt use among motorists was exemplary.
Approximately 35 hundred vehicles were checked during the Fort St. John road stop operations, and the RCMP say they are very impressed with the overall safe driving and regulation compliance of motorists in the area.
