More details released in Highway 29 crash

The RCMP now reports the cause of the single vehicle crash on Highway 29, about 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, appears to have been defective brakes on a trailer.

The crash, on the switchback turns at the Cache Creek Hill, involved a transport truck pulling an enclosed fifth wheel trailer.

The driver and lone occupant was trapped in the cab of the truck, for about 90 minutes, before he was freed by fire department personnel.

He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and, is expected to be released from Fort St. John hospital within the week.

There was initial police concern the accident may have caused environmental damage, because the trailer was carrying three cars and fuel for them.

However, it was later determined, no fuel had been spilled.

It did however, take until three o’clock Thursday afternoon, to clear the crash site and repair post guard rails, that were dislodged during the collision.

During that time, the crash site section of the highway was limited, to alterning single lane traffic.
