Protestors stage rallies at Conservative MP offices

Forestry workers staged rallies at several Conservative constituency offices on Monday, demanding action on Canada’s forestry crisis.

Members of the Communications, Energy, and Paperworkers (CEP) Union of Canada showed up at the Prince George office of House Leader Jay Hill, as well as the offices of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon, and 4 other MPs.

According to a CEP Union release, the workers are demanding MPs meet with them, to discuss their proposals for solutions to the forestry crisis, and that Prime Minister Harper meet with a union delegation during a planned protest on June 2nd.

Union representatives have been pleading for loan guarantees, pension protection, money for laid-off workers, and legislative changes to level the playing field with the American lumber industry.
