A Special Olympian from Fort St. John has received one more honour.

After winning a gold medal at February’s recent World Winter Games, in Boise, Idaho, Darlene Jakubowski has now been named a winner of the BC Council for Exceptional Children’s ‘Yes I Can’ award.

The awards recognize young British Columbians, from 2-21 years of age, with exceptionalities, who achieve in one of nine different categories.  Darlene won in the Athletics Category, for her continuing success as a special Olympic figure skater.

Typically, award winners aren’t announced until the night of the awards gala, but in Jakubowski’s case, the announcement was made early to allow her and her family time to plan their attendance at the ceremony, in Vancouver, on November 7th.
