The fire started shortly after 5pm and continues to burn.  According to Fire Chief Fred Burrows fire crews will not enter the building and will let the fire burn itself out, but make sure that it doesn’t spread to other buildings.

Crews are attacking the fire from outside with all of the fire equipment available in Fort St. John.  A north wind is blowing the fire and smoke back into the building which is making it more difficult to fight.

The fire has caused a large power outage in Fort St. John as a major power line runs between the Fort Hotel and the Marc Joseph Buildings.  Power was cut because of the fire to an area from 114ave to the Alaska Highway and east of 100th street.  Power is expected to be back on by 9pm, but that could change depending on the fire.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
