City's rental policy to be reviewed during the summer

The City will continue to review its policy on renting equipment for special events.

City Staff presented a report to Council on Monday night, asking councilors to continue its support on the current policy.

However, Larry Evans says the City needs to put non-profit organizations first.

The debate has been circulating for some time now. Trail LeClerc, owner of Systems by Trail, appeared before council on May 25th and expressed his concerns on the City renting out equipment. He said he is losing business because his customers are going to the City for the same equipment he rents out.

At Monday night’s meeting, Councilor Lori Ackerman suggested to delay the decision until more information is available.

She says there needs to be a thorough inventory on the City’s equipment as well as equipment from businesses who offer similar services.

City Staff will be meeting with several stakeholders during the summer months to investigate the issue. It is expected to be brought up again at one of the September meetings.
