Residents of three communities are able to return home, after an evacuation order was sent out on Thursday.
The fire has once again grown during the evening. It’s now estimated at 165 square kilometers in size.
Members of each nearby community remain on evacuation alert. The fire is only 15 minutes away from Coal River.
Fire information officer Jillian Chimko predicted earlier on Friday, that the evacuation order would be lifted.
More than 60 residents were evacuated to Watson Lake on Thursday. People from Coal River, Muddy River Indian Reserve #1 and Fireside were ordered to evacuate on Thursday afternoon.
Chimko says the fire didn’t reach the highway as expected on Thursday night, which could be good news for weekend travelers.
The fire is contained on the south side of the road, but not on the north side. The highway is currently open intermittently between Coal River and the Liard Hot Springs.
Meanwhile, there is still no word yet on what caused the fire.
