New owners for Dokie wind farm

The Dokie Wind Farm project is getting some new owners.

Earth First Canada has agreed to sell the project to GE Energy Financial Services, in partnership with the Plutonic Power Corporation.

The sale, which is still subject to closing conditions, would include the Dokie I Windpower Project, as well as the Dokie Expansion Project.

The Dokie Project is located at Dokie Ridge, about 40 kilometres from Hudson’s Hope. According to EarthFirst, it will have a capacity of 144 megawatts when completed.  The Dokie Expansion project is still in development, but would have a capacity of up to 156 MW of potential windpower capacity.

As reported in November, the Dokie Project, had been under creditor protection, after EarthFirst admitted it was unable to meet its financial obligations, citing struggling global markets.

According to theenergynews.com, the project represents GE Energy Financial Services’ first wind energy investment in Canada.  The website reports "Subject to financial close, the partners anticipate resuming construction of the project this fall, and completion in late 2010."
