The Prince George Fire Center has issued two open fire restrictions throughout the region.
Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited beginning Monday, June 8th, until further notice.
Category 2 is a fire that burns piled material no longer than two meters high and three meters wide. This includes grass areas larger than 0.2 hectares in size, as well as all resource management burns.
Category 3 means an open fire that burns material larger than two meters high and three meters wide, or grass over an area of 0.2 hectares in size, which also includes all resource management burns.
The Prince George Fire Center is restricting these burns to help prevent person-caused wildfires. The ban will be in effect in all BC Parks, and to all public and private land.
This, however, does not apply to municipalities or regional districts, because they have their own burning bylaws.
The Prince George Fire Center is reminding everyone to check with local authorities before starting a fire.
