Beginning at noon today and continuing until further notice, Category two and three open fires will be prohibited throughout the Prince George Fire Centre.
A Category two open fire means any open fire which burns piled material no larger than two meters high and three meters wide…or any grass area less than 2,000 square meters.
A Category three open fire referes to those larger than the Category two burn pile or grass area parameters, and in addition, to windrows and all resource management burns.
The Prince George Fire Centre covers a vast area of Northern BC, including all the Peace-Liard region.
It says the open fire ban is being put in place to protect public safety and, to limit the risk of person-caused wildfires.
