TransCanada and ExxonMobil will build the Alaska Gas Pipeline

US energy giant Exxon Mobil has signed on as a partner in a major pipeline project.

Exxon Mobile has announced a partnership with TransCanada Corporation, in the building of a 26 billion dollar natural gas pipeline through Alaska and Canada.

The 2,700 kilometer pipeline will carry natural gas from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, through the Yukon, to an end point near Boundary Lake, on the BC / Alberta border.

TransCanada’s proposal was granted a licence from the Alaska government in December, but until today, no producer had committed to the project.

Construction is not expected to begin until 2016 and the pipeline could be in service by 2018.

Below you can download a copy of the pipeline’s planned route.
