Gilbert Bilodeau staged a great come-from-behind effort to win Sunday’s Montney-Rose Prairie Loop 47 km road race. He won a close one with a time of 1:28:41 over Sven Svenson who came in a mere 13 seconds later. Roger St. Jean was third at 1:29:04, Pat Ferris 1:30:42 and Bob Andrews 5th at 1:33:18.
Ten riders started under iffy weather conditions. The pack split up on the Rose Prairie road hills. Eventually, Pat Ferris, Sven Svenson and Roger St. Jean pulled away from the chasers. Gilbert Bilodeau caught the group on the switchback downhill and teamed up with Sven Svenson to leave Ferris and St. Jean on the steep Montney Creek hill. Gilbert then got a short lead to the finish for the win.
Richard Wood was 7th at 1:35:47, Ken Nix 1:37:00 and Sam Keats and George Gamble tied for 9th at 1:41:25.
