Communities concerned by EnCana attacks

Concern is growing throughout the Peace Region after the latest EnCana explosion on Saturday.

Police have deemed the six attacks in the region as domestic terrorism.

Mayor of Dawson Creek Mike Bernier says the community is getting frustrated with the explosions.

Electoral Area-D Trustee Wayne Hiebert agrees. He says members of surrounding communities are remaining calm and want to see those responsible reprimanded.

EnCana is offering a 500 thousand dollar reward for information leading to a conviction in the case. Bernier says it’s just a matter of time until someone gets hurt.

That, he says, is enough motivation for Dawson Creek residents to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.

Meanwhile, speculation is circulating throughout the town of Pouce Coupe. Mayor Lyman Clark says some residents are blaming reclusive bush hermits for the explosions.

While the RCMP hasn’t announced any known suspects, debate continues on where the bomber comes from, and what the motivation is behind the six explosions.

Hiebert says he doesn’t know what could spark someone to become that enraged with EnCana.

In June, the RCMP ruled out any relation between a garbage can explosion near Pouce Coupe and the recent explosions.

However, Clark says some community members think otherwise.

Despite the growing speculations, police continue their investigations. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact their local RCMP or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
