EnCana gas leak could take a while to stop

Encana’s Rhona DelFrari says it could take some time to stop the sweet gas leak eight kilometres South of Dawson Creek.

The leak was caused by an explosion that happened on July 1st. Police have confirmed that the explosion was intentional and have linked it to the four previous EnCana bombings.

Corporal Dan Moskaluk says there is no immediate danger to the public regarding the gas leak at the site.

Shortly after 8am on Wednesday morning, an EnCana staff member was doing a routine check and noticed a well head had been disturbed. After closer inspection he noticed a small leak, and found it had started shortly after 2am Wednesday morning.

EnCana hired private security guards last year, and doesn’t plan to increase security after the current explosion.

DelFrairi says EnCana has yet to understand the motivation for the bombings.

She says EnCana hasn’t discussed whether or not it will increase the reward which currently stands at 500 thousand dollars.

The four bombings between last October and January all targeted EnCana facilities near Toms Lake, BC. No injuries have been reported from any of the bombings so far.
