The internet search company has dispatched a red Chevrolet Cobalt to photograph the streets of our community. The vehicle was first spotted Tuesday with a tripod mounted on the roof holding nine cameras and additional three dimensional laser imaging equipment.

The vehicle is taking high resolution images for the Canadian version of Google’s Street View service. This service allows a close-up, 360-degree view of city streets as if you were driving them.

The service is currently available in the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Australia and Japan. According to Google, the Canadian version is coming soon.  The photographs will soon be available online, once Google processes the images and covers the faces of people who wind up in the images.

The same vehicle was spotted last week taking photos of the streets in Yellowknife, while a similar car was in Whitehorse.
