A group of campers are getting an extra-long camping trip after the road they were traveling on washed out, leaving their RV’s stranded.

Around 11 travelers from Alberta were camping out near Carbon Lake, between Hudson’s Hope and Chetwynd.

The Ministry of Forest and Range are saying the group entered the Johnson Forest Road, off of Highway 29, with their RV’s. After three days of continuous rain, a portion of the road was washed out, around 50 kilometers in, leaving the campers stranded on the other side.

Spokesperson from the Ministry of Forest and Range, Jennifer Mclarty, says the portion that is washed out is only small, but trailers cannot get past it.

On Friday, forest employees were checking road conditions and found a note from the campers, saying they were stuck. The Ministry offered to bring the travelers out, but they would be forced to leave their RV’s until the road condition gets better.

The group decided to stay with their RV’s until the road is repaired. Mclarty says the road should be temporarily repaired in a couple of days.

Police are saying the group has access to supplies and are doing well.
