Marijuana grow-op found in Grande Prairie

In the evening hours of July 2, 2009, Grande Prairie RCMP Drug Section executed a search warrant on a South side residence. A marijuana grow operation was located and police seized 70 marijuana plants.

A 24 year old male, 19 year old male and a 21 year old female, all of Grande Prairie, were charged with Production and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking marijuana. The female will appear in court on August 5 and the two males will appear in court on August 10, 2009.

When harvested, 70 marijuana plants would yield approximately 9800 grams or 49,000 joints. To consume the amount of marijuana seized would take a heavy user approximately 27 years to smoke.

Police encourage the public to contact the detachment, the Report-A-Drug House program or Crime Stoppers with information about drug activity. Police and community continue to work together to promote safe homes, safe communities.
