A woman is dead and a man is in hospital following a single motor vehicle accident east of Dawson Creek.

The vehicle was traveling on Highway 49, four kilometres east of Dawson Creek. Sergeant Peats with the Dawson Creek RCMP, says the vehicle lost control coming around a curve.

Police were called to the scene around one o’clock on Monday morning.

The male, also in his mid-30’s, was flown by air ambulance to Edmonton to receive treatment.

Police believe the two people are from the Dawson Creek area.

The accident caused Highway 49 to remain closed until 11 o’clock on Monday morning. Peats says the closure didn’t affect too many motorists because of the alternate routes available.

A criminal crash investigation team is still investigating the cause of the accident.
