Councilors concerned with proposed beauty pageant

City Councilors say they need more time before deciding if the City wants to support a beauty pageant in Fort St. John.

Locally-owned Crave Enterprises submitted a request to council, asking that the city support the name "Miss Fort St. John" and "Lil’ Miss Fort St. John." It also asked that the city acknowledge the two winners as official representatives for the City.

The Lil’ Miss Pageant is for girls 10-16 years old, while the Miss Fort St. John pageant is for youth and women from 17-35.

The report submitted by city staff to council, suggested both pageants would judge participants in three categories, including a speech, formal gown fashion show, and a bathing suit competition.

During the councilor’s discussion at City Hall on Tuesday night, Mayor Bruce Lantz says he’s not sure if he will support the idea.

Councilor Lori Ackerman says she agrees with Mayor Lantz. But, she says she is willing to discuss alternative options.
