Many experts are saying that the $1 million dollar reward that EnCana is offering is a little ridiculous.
The company has been targeted by a series of explosions over the past year. EnCana now has doubled the reward from $500,000 to $1 million, shortly after the sixth explosion was set off near Dawson Creek.
EnCana is trying to make the pot sweeter for those who have any information, but The Edmonton Journal reports that experts say and history shows the chances are slim.
Kevin Haggerty, a criminologist at the University of Alberta says it’s a little ridiculous because there is little difference between the previous reward and $1 million dollars.
He also says tips usually come in for personal reasons, leaving the money as a perk rather than the main motivator.
But, Haggerty also points out the $1-million reward may pay off in extra awareness, because the news will be splashed across headlines nation-wide.
Neil Boyd, a criminologist at Simon Fraser University says it’s unlikely the reward will be given out. But, he says he doesn’t see a downside in offering it.
