Free pesticide disposal available to local farmers

Farmers in the Peace Region will be able to dispose any expired or unwanted pesticides later this month, thanks to a special collection program in the area.

The CleanFARMS collection program is co-sponsored by industry and government. It will be available for five days and is free of charge to all farmers.

Director of the BC Grain Producers Association, Martin Moore, says changes in crops and crop production methods may result in pesticides being unusable, and that the pesticide collection program ensures the products are taken care of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Products will be accepted at 1-684 213 Road in Dawson Creek and 9704 78th Street in Fort St. John. Pesticide products that will be accepted include agricultural herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and rodenticides. Other products will not be accepted.

The program runs from August 24th-28th.
