Missing Kayakers Found near Graham River

The Fort St. John RCMP received a report of three overdue kayakers on Friday August 14th.

A father and his two daughters had failed to return to their campsite after a planned two day trip down the Graham River near Crying Girl Prairie.  The RCMP along with the Provincial Emergency Program, Search and Rescue organized a immediate search of the area involving a helicopters.

Police found the three missing people safe and unharmed walking on a roadway near Crying Girl Prairie.  The father stated they had some bad luck at the beginning of the second day, breaking one paddle and losing another.  This forced them to abandon their kayak’s and walk approximately 30 kilometres along the river bank until they found the roadway they were located on.

The RCMP wish to thank PEP and Search and Rescue for their help and quick response.  The RCMP would also like to remind all person’s travelling in the back country to be properly equipped and have the required skills to travel safely.  In this case it was vital that three overdue kayakers had a plan in place in case they did not make it back on time.
