Premier's talk about H1N1

Swine flu was high on the agenda of a meeting yesterday between Canada’s newly elected aboriginal leader and the nation’s premiers in Regina.

Shawn Atleo, Grand Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, says the premiers recognize the need to prepare for a return of swine flu this fall.

He’s also encouraged that they agree resources needed to fight the virus should be extended to isolated, northern First Nations, which are especially susceptible to the H1/N1 virus.

Today, the premiers will switch their focus to Employment Insurance and B-C’s Gordon Campbell says, they need to come up with a "common plan" they could propose to the federal government.

Currently there are 58 different federal standards across the country for qualifying for E-I benefits and in general, it’s easier to qualify in areas where jobless rates are high.
