$7.7 million in funding for South Peace infrastructure

The Federal and Provincial governments have announced $7.7 million in investments in South Peace infrastructure.

The funding includes a little over $770,000 for upgrades to storm drains on 92nd Avenue in Dawson Creek, almost $600,000 for reconstruction and widening of 53rd Avenue in Chetwynd, and $1.7 million for the construction of a sewer extension to the Harper and Imperial subdivisions in the Peace River Regional District.

$1.5 million has been earmarked for construction of a new reservoir in Pouce Coupe, and a $3.1 million capital project will see resurfacing of highway 97 from the traffic circle in Dawson Creek to the Kiskatinaw Bridge.

The cash comes from the Building Canada and Infrastructure Stimulus funds, and will create around 50 jobs.

In all, the two levels of government announced 174 projects on Thursday, worth a combined $719 million.

An announcement of funding for North Peace Communities is planned for the coming weeks.
